Today was a travel day…Taipei, Taiwan to Phuket, Thailand (via Bangkok). It was a long day starting with a bit over an hour by metro to the Taipei airport, then a couple hours awaiting our flight. The first flight was 4 hours long to Bangkok and if I were an inch taller, I don’t think I could have physically sat in the seat…my knees were pressing into the chair in front of me. I know I have been the tallest person everywhere we have gone for the past several weeks, but this was a bit on the uncomfortable side. We then were scheduled with a 2-hour layover in Bangkok, Thailand…but the flight was delayed an hour so this stretched to a bit over 3 hours. The kids begged for Burger King (but there are some unique menu options over here, so that made it worthwhile). We were also entertained by a cute robotic sweeper that was driving all over the terminal scooping up trash like a Roomba’s big brother. It even talked politely to you to ask you to get out of the way if you were standing in its path. We then had a 1.5 hour flight to Phuket, followed by a 1.25 hour drive to the hotel. We left the Airbnb before 10am and got to the new hotel after midnight (though here it was actually just past 11pm because of the time zone change). The good news is that for the next 2 months (Thailand and Vietnam) our time zone is 12 hours off of Houston…so it is easy for us to keep up with time back home! We have not seen much of Phuket (pronounced “poo-ket” for those of you thinking this might be a frustrated obscenity) because it was after dark when we landed, but are excited to check it out tomorrow.
