Today is July 4th…but there are no fireworks in Budapest. In fact, I will miss out on my favorite pyrotechnic display 3 years in a row (last year I was in Israel, this year Budapest, and next year is likely Africa). Here, it is just a regular Tuesday in July.
We had a pretty rainy day today, so didn’t do as much as we otherwise might have. We started out at the Fisherman’s Bastion which is one of the most visited places in Bucharest. It is a wide promenade built in 1895-1902 specifically to be a viewing terrace overlooking the city. There are 7 towers and panoramic views, all surrounding the Matthias Church.
After dodging the rain in a coffee shop for a while, we eventually headed back to the apartment to relax for the afternoon.
For dinner, we found a gluten-free restaurant that was QUITE the experience. The waitress (who presumably was the only one working there other than the chef) was nuts. Pure crazy. But the food was AMAZING. Some of the best food of the whole trip. I guess it was sort of “dinner and a show” with the free entertainment of the waitress telling off customers, a power outage, running out of 1/3 of the menu, a continuous beeping sound…all the things that might normally result in an unfavorable experience, but were completely overwhelmed by the quality of the food.
